Recap of Xela, Guatemala
On April 2, 2011, a group of ten Give Back Beyond Cincinnati members traveled to Xela, Guatemala to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity for one week.
Embarking on this experience, my expectations were simply to build a house, and return home. But what I returned with was much more. I made great new friends, experienced a country I would have never visited otherwise, was exposed to a new culture, and most of all helped out a family that was in need. The people of Guatemala were warm, kind and very excited to see us, which made the “work” easier.
During our free time we climbed a volcano, toured the city of Antigua, went to a Xela soccer match (which happened to be the FINALS!), stopped for lunch at Lake Atitlan and met many awesome people.
To anyone who is considering a Give Back trip, I would highly recommend it.
